Aussie researchers appear to be at the forefront of a push to rapidly develop drugs and vaccines against infectious diseases, launching the first purpose-built facility for human challenge trials in the Southern Hemisphere.
In human challenge trials, researchers intentionally expose healthy volunteers to an infectious agent to test a vaccine or treatment with the aim of speeding up development.
