Pfizer touts Australian results

An Australian study sponsored by Abrysvo maker Pfizer has reinforced the effectiveness of maternal immunisation to help protect infants from serious respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease during their most vulnerable months.

The study, dubbed STREETON, evaluated more than 1,000 infants, aged six months or younger, across nine hospitals during Australia’s year-round maternal RSV immunisation program between March 2025 and February 2026.

Findings published in JAMA Pediatrics found maternal RSV immunisation from 28 weeks’ gestation was associated with 86.3 per cent effectiveness against RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease (RSV-LRTD) hospitalisation in infants up to two months of age.
