New antibiotic arrives in Australia
Accelagen has secured the TGA’s approval for Fetroja, an intravenously delivered antibiotic developed by Japanese pharma Shionogi.
Fetroja, which contains the active ingredient cefiderocol, is indicated for the treatment of infections due to proven or strongly suspected carbapenem-resistant aerobic Gram-negative organisms in adults with limited treatment options; complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis Hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia.
“It is recommended that Fetroja should be used after consultation with a physician with appropriate experience in the management of infectious diseases,” according to the Public Summary document.
