AbbVie is boosting its atopic dermatitis portfolio with its biggest acquisition in more than half a decade, which will allow it to take a tilt at a half-billion dollar market in Australia.
The $15.6 billion (US$10.9 billion) all cash deal to buy Apogee Therapeutics will give it control of lead asset zumilokibart, a subcutaneous, half-life extended, monoclonal antibody targeting IL-13 for patients with atopic dermatitis which AbbVie thinks may be best-in-category with mega-blockbuster potential. It's due to start Phase 3 trials in the second half of this year.
