Diabetes drug restrictions dropped

New Zealand has dropped restrictions for subsidised diabetes medication, extending access to four drugs to a further 30,000 people.

The changes affect Boehringer Ingelheim's Jardiance and Jardiamet, Novo Nordisk's Victoza, and Eli Lilly's Trulicity.

"Type 2 diabetes affects hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders and can lead to serious complications including heart and kidney disease," Pharmac Chief Medical Officer, Dr David Hughes, said.
