Shortage looms on demand surge

A new shortage of Clinect’s PBS listed Catapres 150 is looming due an increase in demand, with the TGA confirming that it is in the process of renewing a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI) to help patients have continuous access.
Catapres 150 mcg is the only brand of clonidine 150 mcg tablets supplied in Australia and is used to treat essential hypertension and renal hypertension. Clonidine is also used off-label for various conditions, including ADHD, chronic pain and cancer pain.
