Fifty medicines accounted for just over half of the Federal Government's spending on the PBS in the financial year 2024-25, figures in the latest PBS Expenditure and Prescriptions Report has revealed.
The 50 most costly drugs racked up $9,886,660,006 on the PBS, around 51.2 per cent of the total cost of the PBS to the government before rebates. It's 7.6 per cent higher than the cost of the top 50 drugs in the prior financial year, although the proportion of the total is about the same.
