Off-label scripts for kids soaring

Prescribers are writing scripts for Ozempic for patients under the age of 18 years despite it not being approved for that age group, in the most egregious example of off-label prescribing of the drug.

PBS data provided by the Department of Health and Aged Care revealed that between July 2020, when Ozempic was first listed on the PBS, and June 2024 more than 2,832 scripts for the diabetes drug were written for people under 18 years of age.
