How many of the best US drugs have reached Australia?

Eight of 21 drugs named finalists for the prestigious 2026 Prix Galien USA Awards in the best pharmaceutical product category have been approved for use in Australia but only three of those are currently reimbursed.

To qualify, each candidate must be FDA approved for marketing within the last five years and demonstrate tremendous potential to improve human health. Sales data are not considered by the nominating committee in their award nominee selection, only science and health impact.

However, of the finalists only Novartis’ tyrosine kinase inhibitor Scemblix and radioligand therapy (RLT) Pluvicto plus Johnson & Johnson’s antidepressant nasal spray Spravato are currently subsidised in Australia.
