Australia lags well behind other countries at funding treatments for rare diseases, according to a new IQVIA white paper commissioned by Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease.
Australia funded just 72 orphan medicines between 2016 and 2025, putting it 14th out of 15 comparator countries, despite 193 medicines receiving orphan drug designations during that time, and 143 of those medicines being registered, according to the white paper, All Too Rare, which was published today.
