Analysts are now branding loss of exclusivity of BMS' star performer Eliquis one of the biggest patent cliff falls in pharma history, with sales expected to plummet 98.6 per cent between 2025 and 2031, according to GlobalData analysts.
The blockbuster anticoagulant will lose patent protection in Europe in 2026 and the US in 2027, with generic entry and peak revenue loss arriving in 2028. As a result, global revenues of US$14.4 billion in 2025 will drop to just US$205 million in 2031, GlobalData says.
