'Fiasco sale' damages deal-making

A rollercoaster week ended in a crash for Mayne on Friday with the news that the Federal Government would block its sale to Cosette, in a move which could have consequences for future deals.
The threat by Cosette to close down Mayne's manufacturing plant in Salisbury, South Australia, despite such a decision not being 'commercially rational', was seen by many analysts as an attempt to use a 'get out of jail free card' that would create uncertainty for future deals if it was successful.
