Marginalised communities are disproportionately likely to have negative healthcare experiences, and many disengage from healthcare as a result, according to research commissioned by Sanofi as part of an initiative to rebuild trust in the health system among historically under-supported groups.
A survey of more than 2000 Australians, conducted in June and July, found that large numbers of marginalised people had experienced multiple instances of mistreatment, including 78 per cent of people with disabilities (compared to 50 per cent of people without disabilities), 70 per cent of LGBTQIA+ individuals (compared
to 52 per cent of non-LGBTQIA+ individuals), and 63 per cent of women (compared to 48 per cent of men).
