Tiny antibody has big impact

An international team of researchers led by the University of Queensland (UQ) hope to advance a nanobody found to neutralise the highly lethal Hendra and Nipah viruses for which there is currently no vaccine or cure.

First identified in Brisbane in 1994, Hendra virus has infected people via horses and flying foxes in eastern Australia while Nipah virus outbreaks in people occur almost annually in Bangladesh and occasionally in other Asian countries where it is carried by bats.
