Major pharmas are spending millions on security for their CEOs, with some citing threats against their executives as a driver for the expense.
Moderna, which rose to public prominence during the Covid pandemic, began providing "personal and home security services" to some executives in 2020. Last year the company spent $1.5 million (US$959,688) providing the services for CEO Stephane Bancel, citing "the ongoing, heightened risk environment". Chairman Noubar Afeyan relied on $25,156 (US$15,971) for protective services.
