Health Minister Mark Butler will be asking the PBAC for a 'please explain' after its decision to effectively reject industry's proposal for immediate PBS listing for certain cancer drugs after TGA approval, with access to medicines threatening to boil over into a hot election issue.
Last month the PBAC delivered a bitter blow to to a potential major reform, effectively bringing to a dead-end independent proposals for automatic reimbursement on registration from MSD for its PD-1 inhibitor, Keytruda and BMS for Opdivo and Yervoy.
