Pharma boosts pipeline to 39 assets

Sandoz will add up to 10 biosimilars to its pipeline after signing an agreement with Shanghai Henlius Biotech worth up to US$322 million (A$453 million).

The initial agreement covers biosimilars of three blockbusters: Merck Healthcare’s Erbitux (cetuximab), Amgen’s Repatha (evolocumab), and GSK’s Benlysta (belimumab), which between them racked up more than US$6 billion in global sales last year.

It also includes an option for a biosimilar of Halozyme’s Hylenex recombinant human hyaluronidase, which increases the dispersion and absorption of injected medicines, to be used in the development of a biosimilar.
