Lilly CEO calls out PBS pricing on Aussie TV
Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks appeared on the ABC's 7.30 Report last night delivering a frank message that the company was not interested in accepting a low-ball price in order to get its blockbuster drug Mounjaro on the PBS.
It was Ricks' second appearance on the program in less than 18 months and again he offered a reasoned argument for faster access to medicines at fair prices. In April Lilly announced it would not make Mounjaro available on the PBS for Australians with type 2 diabetes after failing to secure a viable price.
Ricks said the door was never closed to further negotiations but the company would not cave in to unreasonable pricing, conceding a cut rate price in Australia would have "a ripple effect" on global drug pricing.
