Early detection avoids ER crisis

Nine out of ten health professionals support government-funded screening for type 1 diabetes, with most agreeing it should be available to all children, according to a new report by Sanofi and Breakthrough T1D.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) has been redefined as an autoimmune condition that develops gradually, initially without symptoms. An estimated 25,000 Australians are unknowingly living with the early stages of T1D, and most are diagnosed only after landing in the emergency department.
