AbbVie has started legal proceedings against a start-up it claims took a shortcut past the hard work necessary for success by stealing the pharma's trade secrets and confidential information.
In a lawsuit filed last week in the the United States District Court, AbbVie accused ProfoundBio and two ex-employees, Dr Tae Han and Dr Julia Gavrilyuk, of stealing its solution to creating antibody-drug conjugates, for which it has filed patents and which attracted a buyout offer for $2.9 billion (US$1.8 billion) from Danish pharma Genmab last May.
