The ten most expensive treatments currently on the market cost over $47 million combined, but despite the hype they're not big money-spinners for pharmas.
The treatments on the list compiled by pharma market researcher Dr Joanna Sadowska - all cell and gene therapies - aim to cure serious conditions rather than slow disease progress or treat symptoms, hence the hefty price tag to offset R&D costs. However, pharmas face headwinds in getting approval and funding for the treatments, and the ticket price isn't what is automatically paid.
