One of the longest-serving CEOs in the pharma industry, Takeda's Christophe Weber, has announced plans to retire with the company tapping its US Country Head, Julie Kim, for the top job - bumping up the number of female bosses in Big Pharma to four.
Kim will join GSK's Emma Walmsley, Vertex's Reshma Kewalramani and Merck's Belen Garijo in the exclusive club of women who lead top pharma companies. When Kim takes the reins in mid-2026, she will become just the fourth woman to be appointed to lead a Big Pharma in nine years.Walmsley took the top job in 2017, Kewalramani in 2020 and Garijo in 2021.
