Posted 20 November 2024 AM

Figures released today on Australian health spending detail how much more is being spent on pharmaceuticals in the country, and which disease areas are costing the most.

Per capita spending on the PBS increased 13.2 per cent for the 2022-23 financial year, jumping from $518.6 in 2021-22 to $578.3 in 2022-23, according to the Health expenditure Australia 2022-23 report put out by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare today. The AIHW lists PBS spending under Primary Health Care, which refers to health care not related to a hospital visit.
