Australia was months behind comparator countries in securing deals with Big Pharma for life-saving vaccines at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic - a delay that resulted in deaths, harsh economic losses and prolonged hardline lockdowns, according to the findings of a report into Australia's handling of the crisis.
While Australia was trying to supress transmission through public health measures, other like-countries were signing deals with pharmas for vaccines. And not only was Australia too slow to sign up, when it finally did, it failed to secure for enough doses.
