The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) has accused the Albanese Government of "pandemic amnesia" after failing to allocate further funds for the Australian Centre for Disease Control (ACDC) in last night's Federal Budget.
The ACDC was a 2022 election promise to improve pandemic preparedness and response. While an "interim ACDC" was established with $90 million over two years in the 2023 budget the PHAA complained it has been "basically invisible" to the public and the future of the agency remains unclear.
