Drug maker on cartel charges

Posted 2 December 2020

Australian active ingredient maker, Alkaloids of Australia Pty Ltd, and its former export manager Christopher Kenneth Joyce have each been charged with 33 criminal cartel offences, over an active pharmaceutical ingredient used in antispasmodic medications.

A major investigation by the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) alleges that the company with bases in both NSW and Queensland was involved in price-fixing and rigging supply bids. The ACCC has referred the case to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
