Merck vs Merck hits Aust

Merck KGaA has commenced legal action against MSD Australia over alleged trademark infringements as the long-running global battle between the two pharmas over the Merck name reaches down under.

MSD noted the Australian legal action in an overview of larger international market cases between the two companies in its recent 2018 Q2 financial report. The report said US Merck, known as MSD outside the US, had filed a lawsuit against Merck KGaA in Germany over use of the 'Merck' name in January 2016.
