New indication sends revenue soaring

Takeda has seen a big win, with a recent expansion for a cancer drug seeing reimbursements increase by almost two-thirds within half a year.

In July last year, Takeda won a recommendation from the PBAC for Adcetris as a first-line therapy to treat Stage III or IV CD30 positive Hodgkin Lymphoma, in combination with doxorubicin, vinblastine and dacarbazine. It was the pharma's second tilt at a recommendation, and got through with revised economic modeling and a new price.

In November the new indication was listed on the PBS, and the response was fast.
