Antibiotics hit with boxed warning

Boxed warnings are being introduced to the labels of all oral and injectable fluroquinolones in Australia to raise awareness of existing “serious disabling and potentially irreversible adverse reactions” when taking these antibiotics following a TGA investigation.

Fluroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and moxifloxacin, are broad-spectrum antibiotics used against susceptible infections and are usually reserved for patients who have no other treatment options.
