When it comes to understanding the difference between a pharma product rep and an MSL, 60 per cent of GPs and 49 per cent of specialists cannot differentiate between the two roles, according to an Australian survey of doctors.
The specialties that were best at recognising the distinction were cardiologists, with 70 per cent understanding the two roles followed by 68 per cent of haematologists and oncologists. The least aware were specialists managing inflammatory diseases (50 per cent) and psychiatrists (49 per cent).
