New standard could boost market

Treatments for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) could soar with the launch of the first national standard of care in response to figures which show that one in 13 Australians over the age of 40 have the condition but only half of them know it.

Developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Clinical Care Standard is endorsed by 20 peak bodies, including leading lung health organisations, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and Lung Foundation Australia.
