The Federal Government will spend an extra $2.133 billion on the Health Department in 2021-22 as the result of decisions taken since the budget, according to the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook.
Most of that is for measures to fight the pandemic, with the biggest cost a further $894.4 million for the COVID-19 vaccination program. A further $260.7 million is budgeted in the COVID-19 Response Package under "guaranteeing Medicare and access to medicines", and $187 million to strengthen primary care.
