MSD lays down its view on biosims
MSD is lobbying from within Medicines Australia for the adoption of an international biosimilar naming convention to form part of the industry body's response to the TGA enquiry on biosimilar naming.
MSD's second biosimilar Renflexis (infliximab) PBS-listed on 1 August, four months after its first biosimilar, Brenzys (etanercept), and giving MSD a strong interest in ensuring Medicines Australia adheres to the Strategic Agreement by working to promote the uptake of biosimilars in Australia.
As a member of Medicines Australia and not the Generic and Biosimilar Medicines Association (GBMA), MSD needs to convince its fellow members, many of whom sponsor originator biological products, that it is in their best interests to adopt an international biosimilar naming convention.
