Aussie class action targets pharma

Pfizer is facing a class action in Australia over its contraceptive injection Depo-Provera, following similar lawsuits in the US, UK and Canada.

Shine Lawyers filed the class action in the Supreme Court of Victoria, alleging Pfizer knew, or ought to have known that patients who use Depo-Provera were at increased risk of developing brain tumours called meningiomas, and therefore should not have sold the products, or, alternatively included a warning on the label, according to reports in legal publication, Lawyerly.

"In December 2025, Shine Lawyers filed proceedings in the Supreme Court of Victoria on a protective basis while investigations continue. The proceedings have not yet been served,"  Shine Lawyers Class Actions Practice Leader, Lorne Franks, told Pharma in Focus.
