First pharma worth a trillion dollars

Eli Lilly has become the first trillion-dollar pharma. The drugmaker hit a US$1 trillion valuation on the US stockmarket on Friday, having added more than US$400 billion to its market cap since early August.

In 2017, when Dave Ricks took over as CEO, the company was worth US$81 billion.

Lilly’s shares were trading at about US$1059 each at the close on Friday, up 36 per cent so far this year, 619 per cent over five years, and 1167 per cent over 10 years.
