Supply chain to get tighter

COVID-19 outbreaks in India have exacerbated the strain on pharmaceutical supply and amplified the problems Australia faces because of its lack of local manufacturing options, a conference on health security has heard.

MTPConnect's chair Sue MacLeman, speaking during an online Q&A panel on health security and medical countermeasures at the recent DMTC annual conference, said while Australia had done "extraordinarily well" in dealing with pandemic-induced shortages, it still had "amazing reliance on overseas pharmaceutical developers and manufacturers".
