Australia is looking to join a global initiative that could allow governments to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for a fifth of their populations from a portfolio of candidates and manufacturers across the world.
The Australian government has already submitted an expression of interest to join the COVAX Facility - an initiative by Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, aimed at combining funds from multiple countries to support a large number of vaccine candidates.
